Department of Political Science

 

The Department of Political Science has started its journey in the year 2000 as a pass course (general)  with the affiliation from The University of Burdwan, Bardhhaman, W.B. Till 2005, the department has only two part-time teachers ( later known as State Aided College Teacher- SACT) namely Mr. PurnadasBandyopadhyay and Mr. Milan Mukhopadhyay.  In 2005, Mr. BijanChatterjee, another part-time teacher (now SACT) joined the Department. In 2010, Honours course was introduced.The department was headed under the leadership Mr. PurnadasBandyopadhyaysince 2000 to 22nd July,2019. Now, Mr. BijanChatterjee is the  head of the depart mentsince 22nd July 2019. Later on, since 2017 the affiliation has been changed to Bankura University (with CBCS pattern). In 2018, the department got two more guest teachers (now SACT) namely Mr. Mrityunjoy Panda and Mr. Partha Pal.In the year 2023, the department got its first Assistant Professor when Mr. SudebBesra joined the department. Currently the department consists of 6 permanent teachers and a need based teacher at about 300 students consisting honours, programme, major and minor students. W.e.f. 2023-24 session, NEP-2020 policy is being followed. That’s why, Political Science is also being taught as multidisciplinary subject.

The atmosphere of the department is warm and the bonding of teachers and students is very good which we are proud of. Cultural Programmes like Teachers’ Day, Fresher’s welcome, Annual Magazine publication, Students Seminar, Quiz, Debate etc. are regularly organized by the students every year. The results of the department are satisfactory. Lots of our students progress to higher education after completing the graduation.
