About Department

The Department of Santali has started its journey in the year 2009 as a pass course (general)  with the affiliation from The University of Burdwan, Bardhhaman, W.B. Till  December,2009, the department has only one guest teacher namely Mr. Shyamcharan Mandi.  In December 2009, Mr. Fudan Chandra Tudu, another guest teacher joined the Department. The department was headed under the leadership of Mr. Fudan Chandra Tudu till 2012. In 2013 , Mr.Iswar Chandra Hansda another guest teacher ( now state aided college teacher- SACT) joined the department and took charge as the head of the department.  Later on, since 2017 the affiliation has been changed to Bankura University (with CBCS pattern). In 2023, the department got one more need based teacher namely Mr. Shyam Chand Mandi . Currently the department consists of 1 permanent teaches and one need based teacher at about 300 students consisting programme, major and minor students. W.e.f. 2023-24 session, NEP-2020 policy is being followed. That’s why, Santali  is also being taught as multidisciplinary subject.

The atmosphere of the department is warm and the bonding of teachers and students is very good which we are proud of. Cultural Programmes like Teachers’ Day, Fresher’s welcome, Annual Magazine publication, Students Seminar, Quiz, Debate etc. are regularly organized by the students every year. The results of the department are satisfactory. Lots of our students progress to higher education after completing the graduation.
