'संस्कृतमेव हि भारतम्।' Sanskrit language and Sastra are the lives of our country India. Sanskrit is the store house of ancient Indian cultural and Literary Heritage.
The Department of Sanskrit started its journey at the Saltora Netaji Centenary College, in the year 2000-2001 with the affiliation under the University of Burdwan having only Pass Course (General). In the year 2004-2005 Honours course has been started. ThedepartmentfollowstheCBCSpatternsince2017-18undersignedbyBankuraUniversity. Department is consisting of 2(Two) full time Assistant Professors and 3(Three) PermanentPart-time Teachers (P.T.T.) (presently designated as SACT since January, 2020). Presently Kousik Patra is working as the Head of the Department with the help of other reputed teachers namely Sanchita Santra, Achyuta Adhikari, Rabin Acharjee, Madhumita Pal. The Department organizes Departmental Seminar, National Seminar, Student Seminar, Departmental Quiz Contest, Student Orientation Programmes so as to enrich the students with curriculum beyond the Syllabus. Sanskrit Divas is celebrated in this Department of Sanskrit. Besides, students organise Teachers Day, Fresher’s Welcome, and Farewell etc. Departmental wall magazine entitled 'संस्कृत-वर्त्तिका'have been published since 2018-19 by the department. Since inception the department has remained engaged in popularizing the Study of Sanskrit language and literature in the region. The Faculty Members regularly participate in different Faculty Development Program, Seminar, Workshop and Conference for improving their teaching skills in higher education.
The atmosphere of the department is so warm and the bonding of teachers and students is the oxygen of the department. In this way, with the joint effort of departmental students, Faculty members, College Managing Committee and inspiration from our Principal Sir, our department is on the right track of successive progression.
Future Plan for the improvement of the Sanskrit Department:
- Opening of Regular M.A for providing students higher education.
- Opening Sanskrit Language Lab.
- Teaching Spoken Sanskrit to students throughout online medium.
- Publishing Research Journals.
- Organising International Workshop, Seminar, Conference etc.
- Organising special lectures by various eminent scholars from India and abroad.
