Geography

The Department of Geography has started its journey in the year2008as a pass course (general) with the affiliation from The University of Burdwan, Bardhhaman, W.B. Later on, since 2017 the affiliation has been changed to Bankura University (with CBCS pattern). Initially the department started its journey under the leadership of Mr.Budhhadev Shit (as a Part-Time Teacher, later renamed as State Aided College Teacher). After a successful 5 year run, in the year 2013 Honours course (B.Sc. in Geography) was introduced (with 18 seats) and few more teachers also joined the department. In the year 2017, the department got its first Assistant Professor when Dr.NasrinBanu (M.A., Ph.D.) joined the department and took over the headship. But she left very soon to join the P.G. Department of Geography, Aliah University, Kolkata. Soon, Dr.TusharMandal (M.Sc., Ph.D.), Assistant Professor & present head joined in to fill the post. Currently the department consists of 3 permanent teacher and around 45 students consisting honours, programme, major and minor students. W.e.f. 2023-24 session, NEP-2020 policy is being followed.

There is a computer laboratory where GIS and other software are taught with care as per the syllabi of Bankura University. The department is improving steadily arranging the conventional & modern equipment. The atmosphere of the department is warm and the bonding of teachers and students is very good which we are proud of. Cultural Programmes like Teachers’ Day, Fresher’s welcome, Annual Magazine publication, Students Seminar, Quiz, Debate etc. are regularly organized by the students every year. The results of the department are overwhelming.Our students regularly secure rank in the semester examinations of Bankura University and lots of our student progress to higher education after completing the graduation. To name a few, our passed out honours students have done their masters from Bankura Univeristy, KajiNajrul University, The University of Burdwan, Visva-Bharati Central University etc. In near future we have plans to introduce Post Graduate course in Geography in our department.
